For those of you who may not know, I’ve recently discovered a passion for sewing. What started off as a simple desire to make a costume, blossomed into a quest to fill my closet with handmade, one of a kind pieces. One of the things I love about sewing is that you can truly customize a garment to the vision you have as a designer.

While searching for a new project to start, I came across thisĀ Bonnell Dress by Dixie DIY. The side cutouts and the pockets were among my favorite elements of the dress. I sewed the dress in this darling swan fabric I found at Gather Here in Cambridge. The addition of piping on the skirt added an extra touch of specialness. I’m pleased with the overall look. It works well as a casual summer dress and with the addition of a sweater and tights can easily transition into fall.

If you’re interested in learning a new skill whether it is sewing or something else, go for it! Don’t be afraid of failure. Believe me, I’ve had my share of sewing fails, but nothing beats the satisfaction of accomplishing something you’ve never done before. I’d love to hear what new skills you’re interested in learning!
